  Limo companies expanding their fleets with motorcoaches

A growing number of limousine and livery companies are experiencing increased demand for larger vehicles, prompting many of them to add motorcoaches to their fleets of limos, vans and minibuses.

 

 

A growing number of limousine and livery companies are experiencing increased demand for larger vehicles, prompting many of them to add motorcoaches to their fleets of limos, vans and minibuses.

Limo industry officials predict that the trend will accelerate as ridesharing companies such as Uber and Lyft drain their pool of passengers.

They say that because their companies already are established, they have the experience, resources and customer base to expand into the motorcoach industry.

That, in turn, is helping fill a void in the charter and tour bus industry caused by barriers start-up companies face in entering the industry.

"There is a large demand for transportation but there are not that many new motorcoach entries opening up," said Tom Holden, general manager and director of operations at Rose Chauffeured Transportation in Pineville, N.C.

  Top 50 Motorcoach Fleets Focused on Growing Business
    & Recruiting Drivers

Recruiting, hiring, and retaining drivers continues to be the biggest challenge facing motorcoach operations today, according to 85% of respondents to this year's METRO Top 50 Motorcoach Survey.

Additionally, 35% report they are having an issue finding qualified maintenance personnel, while 35% say their biggest challenge is costs, including those associated with employees as well as the growing costs to recruit, hire, and train new employees.


Recruiting, hiring, and retaining drivers continues to be the biggest challenge facing motorcoach operations today, according to 85% of respondents to this year's METRO Top 50 Motorcoach Survey.

Overall, 22,681 vehicles were reported by this year's Top 50, with 9,697, or 43%, of the vehicles reported motorcoaches  -  a slight increase of 430 motorcoaches compared to last year's numbers.

  New York School Bus Contractors Name Legislator of the Year

LATHAM, N.Y. - The New York School Bus Contractors Association (NYSBCA) recently presented its Distinguished Service Award to state Sen. Jeff Klein of the Bronx.

NYSBCA said that the award recognizes commitment to the association's mission to provide the safest, most reliable, and most cost-effective student transportation possible. 

NYSBCA President Bree Allen said that Klein has shown steadfast support for the industry and a passion for safe student transportation.

"Senator Klein is a true champion of student safety, and we are very fortunate to have him as a key ally in the New York State Legislature," Allen said. "This award is much deserved."


LATHAM, N.Y. - The New York School Bus Contractors Association (NYSBCA) recently presented its Distinguished Service Award to state Sen. Jeff Klein of the Bronx.

Klein has been a key advocate for school bus safety bills supported by the NYSBCA, including legislation that would increase the penalties for drivers who illegally pass a stopped school bus. He is also a supporter of providing a sales tax exemption for school buses and related equipment and items, which NYSBCA said would save taxpayers and school districts money and would strengthen the private pupil transportation industry in New York.    READ MORE >
