GreenPower all-electric bus exceeds range expectations

From Metro:

GreenPower Motor Co. Inc. announced its EV350 40-Foot all-electric transit bus outperformed its original range expectations, traveling 205 miles with 50% SOC (state of charge) remaining battery power after the trip.

The GreenPower EV350 was recently purchased by Porterville Transit, and was driven under its own power from San Joaquin Valley to Newport Beach, Calif., to showcase the vehicle at the CALACT Spring 2018 Conference.

To get to Newport Beach, the driver had to travel over California's Grapevine, notable for having far steeper hills than would be typical for a transit route. This means the bus not only outperformed its range expectations but did so along a more demanding route than its typical duty cycle.

"This is a monumental achievement, not only for GreenPower, but for the industry. We drove this bus 205 miles over steep and varied terrain to reach the conference. Even after that lengthy trip, half of the battery power remained," said GreenPower's President.............     READ MORE >

"After the outstanding response we saw in California, Blue Bird is excited to showcase our electric school buses to customers and drivers across North America, not as concept vehicles, but as a preview of our production buses later this fall," said Phil Horlock, president and CEO of Blue Bird Corp. "We are delighted to expand our ‘green' product offering by adding electric bus options in both Type C and D body styles."

Horlock added that the electric buses have received an executive order from the California Air Resources Board and both a Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) and Truck-Voucher Incentive Program (TVIP) listing, which qualify Blue Bird's electric buses for grants available in California and New York, respectively.

"That's great news for our customers, and following our ride and drives in California, we are already receiving orders from school districts," Horlock said.   The electric buses' electric drivetrain was developed with partners Adomani and EDI.  Other key attributes of the.........  READ MORE >
