For many Silicon Valley workers that will soon be a reality thanks to a new custom-built HEPA filtration system that will be installed on a special-order Van Hool TDX high-capacity, double-deck coach. The new feature is the culmination of years of collaboration between ABC and Van Hool to create a custom solution that improves interior cabin air-quality on the 45' double deck coach.

"Our advanced Van Hool TDX model meets and exceeds EPA 16, GHG 17 emission standards for commercial vehicles, so integrating new technology that can further enhance the passenger environment is exciting for our team", stated Roman Cornell, President and Chief Commercial Officer at ABC Companies. "Involving customers in the process from inception, including the design phase, is critical to developing successful and innovative new offerings that meet their needs and strengthen our relationships", he added.

The HEPA filtration unit is equipped with a HEPA filter, two pre-filters and two evaporator blowers that draw outside air through the filters which is then transferred to the TDX lower deck A/C unit where it is circulated throughout the interior of the coach. The new system is designed to offer a significant reduction in particle counts down to the smallest concentration with results being achieved within 20 minutes of operation. Conclusive testing revealed dramatically decreased dust in the interior cabin. Supporting data indicated a substantial drop in measurements in the following test ranges:

- Particles up to 0.3 um dropped from 2500 to 500 in 20mins.
- Particles up to 0.5 um dropped from 1000 to 180 in 20mins.
- Particles up to 1 um dropped from 350 to 70 in 20mins.

"The new HEPA filtration system is designed to provide numerous benefits in terms of both air quality and equipment performance", notes Mr. Nelson, "specifically in static or heavily congested road conditions where traffic emissions from older vehicles are prevalent and can permeate the passenger cabin", he says.............   READ MORE >

2019 list of best U.S. cities for public transportation unveiled

"Housing affordability has become a nationwide concern, leading people to move away from big, expensive cities to smaller, affordable commuter towns and inland areas," said Redfin chief economist Daryl Fairweather. "Cities that offer the best of both worlds - accessible public transit and relatively affordable homes for sale - are destined for strong growth in the coming years."

From Metro:

New York; Union City, New Jersey; and San Francisco top the 2019 list of best cities for public transit, according to a new Transit Score® ranking from Redfin, the tech-powered real estate brokerage. Transit Score, a tool by Redfin company Walk Score®, rates locations based on how convenient they are to public transportation.

Redfin's annual Transit Score report has typically examined large cities with a population of 300,000 or more. This year, Redfin is presenting the raw ranking, unfiltered for population, to show that transit is not reserved only for the largest places.

The three top spots each had a Transit Score of 80 or better, with New York and its New Jersey suburb of Union City surging above other cities, indicating the local public transit is both conveniently located and runs frequently..........    READ MORE & VIEW TOP 25 >

Krapf Chairman Testifies Before Congress on DERA Program

From School Bus Fleet:

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Transportation executive Dale Krapf testified on Wednesday before Congress on the reauthorization of the Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) program.

Krapf is the past president of the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) and chairman of The Krapf Group, one of the largest passenger transportation companies in the U.S. Headquartered in West Chester, Pennsylvania, the Krapf Group is also a pupil transportation provider.

Krapf testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. During his remarks, Krapf noted NSTA's support of the DERA program, which provides funding for clean diesel projects, as well as the preceding Clean School Bus Program.

"We are proud of the progress that has been made," Krapf told the Senate committee, "and especially that the school bus sector has probably been the single largest sector to benefit from the program since the program was established. Communities around the country benefit by having new or retrofitted buses to take children to and from school."

Krapf is the past president of the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) and chairman of The Krapf Group, one of the largest passenger transportation companies in the U.S. Headquartered in West Chester, Pennsylvania, the Krapf Group is also a pupil transportation provider.

Throughout the hearing, Senate Committee members emphasized not only the importance of the program in their states in curbing pollution and carbon emissions, but also the fact that the technology used has been overwhelmingly developed in the United States and is now being exported around the world, according to the NSTA.

Krapf also explained the overall impact school buses have on the environment in reducing the number of vehicles on the road, providing cleaner air, and reinforcing safety for students.

"Each day, nearly 500,000 school buses transport over 26 million school children to and from school —more than inter-city and intra-city bus transportation, rail, and aviation combined," Krapf told the Senate committee. "School buses help ease congestion, help save energy, and reduce pollution by taking an average of 36 cars off the road for each bus in service.".......   READ MORE >
