NJ TRANSIT approves order for 334 new MCI Commuter Coaches

Motor Coach Industries (MCI), a U.S. subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., ("NFI"), one of the world's largest independent global bus manufacturers, announced today that NJ TRANSIT issued a purchase order for 334 new MCI D4500 Commuter Coaches in year five of its six-year MCI contract.

From MCI:

Motor Coach Industries (MCI), a U.S. subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., ("NFI"), one of the world's largest independent global bus manufacturers, announced today that NJ TRANSIT issued a purchase order for 334 new MCI D4500 Commuter Coaches in year five of its six-year MCI contract.

As the nation's largest statewide public transit agency continues to replace older MCI commuter coach models that have reached their useful life, this order nearly doubles the 183 Commuter Coaches ordered in 2019. NJ TRANSIT is replacing many 40-foot models with MCI's new generation of efficient and comfortable 45-foot Commuter Coaches, which provide increased capacity with improved maintenance and operating costs.

This new 2020 MCI Commuter Coach order will be powered by the next-generation, clean-diesel Cummins X12 engine, which is quieter and offers increased fuel economy and lower emissions. The MCI Commuter Coach model also features a 57-seat configuration, is Wi-Fi ready, seatbelt-equipped and compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). MCI will begin production of this order in September.

“NJ TRANSIT continues to raise the bar in providing its ridership with a safe, comfortable and efficient commute as well an enhanced transportation experience. MCI is proud to support NJ TRANSIT and its riders,” said Tom Wagner MCI Vice President of Public Sector.

New Video Details Renewable Propane Benefits

     From School Bus Fleet:

The Propane Education and Research Council (PERC) has unveiled a new video highlighting renewable propane, a new energy source for fleets.

"As the next generation of sustainability, renewable propane is an energy source that will play a critical role in caring for the environment," said Steve Whaley, director of autogas business development at PERC. "Renewable propane has all the benefits of conventional propane autogas  -  it's clean, affordable, and provides fleets with the same performance and reliability they've come to expect  -  but at the point of combustion, it's carbon neutral."

Renewable propane is a byproduct of the renewable diesel and jet fuel production process, which converts plant and vegetable oils, waste greases, and animal fat into fuel, according to PERC. Renewable propane has the same chemical structure and physical properties as conventional propane and can be used in any existing propane autogas engine.
