  NFI announces leadership changes to strengthen MCI operations

NFI Group Inc. has announced leadership changes aimed at strengthening operations at Motor Coach Industries (MCI), part of its strategic initiative, Project Focus. Project Focus, launched to improve quality and operational excellence across NFI's North American manufacturing operations, includes re-establishing MCI as a distinct business unit under the direct leadership of Paul Soubry, NFI's president and CEO.

As part of the initiative, Tom Wagner has been promoted to vice president of private sector sales and service for MCI and will lead sales, field service, marketing and service centers operations. Wagner, who previously was director of private sector sales, succeeds Brent Maitland, who is leaving NFI to become CEO of All Aboard America Holdings Inc.

“Tom's leadership capabilities and deep understanding of our products, business and customers make him the ideal successor to build on the foundation Brent established," Soubry says. “Project Focus is to provide MCI with the dedicated leadership and resources needed to excel, and this leadership transition represents another step in strengthening our organization.".................

The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (The COMET) has introduced four new zero-emission buses into its fleet, supported by a 2.9 million USD grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The addition includes two battery-electric and two hydrogen fuel cell buses, marking a step forward in The COMET's efforts to modernize its services and reduce environmental impact.

Initially entering pilot service, the vehicles will be fully integrated into daily operations across the Midlands, South Carolina, from May 2025.

  Illinois Bill Advances to Require Lap/Shoulder Seatbelts on New School Buses

Illinois lawmakers are advancing legislation that would require all newly purchased school buses in the state to be equipped with lap/shoulder seatbelts. Now entering its third reading in the Senate, the bill marks the state's latest and most promising step toward aligning with national safety recommendations for student transportation.

If enacted, Illinois would become the seventh state to mandate three-point restraints on school buses, joining Arkansas, California, Iowa, Nevada, New Jersey, and Texas.

SB191 is sponsored by Sen. Julie A. Morrison with Sen. Mike Simmons (D–Chicago) as co-sponsor. Rep. Bob Morgan has pre-filed companion legislation in the Illinois House......................................
